Implant dentistry is a predictable method for the replacement of missing teeth. However, long-term success of implant dentistry is becoming questionable with the increased number of relatively early implant failures and complications. The aim of this presentation is to discuss possible advantages, disadvantages, and realistic short- and long-term expectations of the current options available for tooth replacement with dental implants and how periodontal treatment may postpone or even prevent tooth replacement.
Educational Objectives:
- Etiologic factors associated with peri-implant disease
- Treatment options for implant complications
- Rationale for saving teeth or postponing exodontia
